Learn to create a community where everyone has a voice and multiple needs are considered, without bogging down the decision-making process with endless meetings. Improve your leadership skills to help you help other people take actions using non-hierarchical, consensual methods and practices. Even if you don't see yourself as a leader, you can learn the practices and be good partners with a leader.
We’ll explore and practice “circle-based” discussion and decision-making techniques from Art of Hosting, Liberating Structures, and Sociocracy as well as big-picture strategies from various schools of thought leadership.
First Monday of the month, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
UU Church of Kent, 228 Gougler Ave, Kent
Interested in learning more about Christian nationalism and its evolving relationship with democracy? The League of Women Voters of Kent is sponsoring a presentation by the Rev. Christopher McCreight on Thursday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m., at Hobbs Hall, 217 N. Mantua St., Kent. The meeting is free and open to the public.
MrCreight is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and works in a shared position as the minister of Hiram Christian Church and chaplain of Hiram College, both located in Hiram, Ohio. He has been talking to audiences about the nationalistic trend within Christianity in America and how community members with differing stances can be good neighbors while still working to make the nation live up to its founding promise that all are created equal.
McCreight graduated from Hiram College with a B.A. in Religious Studies and from Candler School of Theology at Emory University with a Masters in Divinity.
Declaration for American Democracy is a coalition of non-partisan organizations and offers a communication hub for local events. Check out their website for upcoming nearby events or to host your own.
